The Kundalini energy is the “nerve of the soul” which directs us to a merger with Oneness, satisfying our inner, deep, profound longing. The Kundalini energy dwells within each of us in either a coiled (latent) or released (activated) state. In the coiled state, the power of the Kundalini is static, contained in the subtle energy centre at the base of the spine known as the first chakra. Our spiritual development and self-actualization remain dormant while the Kundalini energy is static and coiled. The release of the Kundalini energy can be facilitated by spiritual practices which include yoga, meditation, prayer, chanting, contemplation, repeating holy words or mantras, the study of scriptures, breathing techniques, selfless service and/or surrender to the Divine.

When the Kundalini energy is released, it moves upward along the spine through the primary subtle pathways called “nadis” through the energy centres known as the chakras and finally to the subtle energy centres in the brain which are associated with the pituitary and pineal glands. When the energy can rise unobstructed through the central nadi (sushumna) to the highest centre in the brain, the experience of Oneness and Self-realization occurs.

The Kundalini yoga class will begin with an opening mantra, followed by a pranayam (breathing exercise); a series of yoga postures with movement; a relaxation; and a meditation.

Please bring your own mat and shawl/blanket.
