Would you like to practice kundalini yoga outside in community, enjoying the elements while balancing your mind/body/spirit? Is it time for a tune-up of your energy centres, or chakras? Join Sat Dharam Kaur and experienced kundalini yoga teachers for this profound and healing weekend on Sat Dharam and Har-Prakash’s farm near Owen Sound, Ontario.
This gathering is intended for those of you who have been practicing kundalini yoga for many years, and long for in-person community, as well as for those new to the practice who are curious and open.
We will practice 8 different yoga sets in 8 different locations on the farm, with 8 different kundalini yoga teachers, over 2 days. You will be invited to contemplate specific questions about yourself in relation to each of the chakras before arriving at the retreat, in preparation for a healing ritual for each chakra.
What Are the Chakras?
The chakras are energy centres located along the spine and in the subtle body that connect our physical bodies to our emotional and spiritual selves. They are hubs of electrical and chemical activity that receive, process and distribute information from and to the rest of the body-mind, acting as bridges between universal consciousness, the external world, our physical body, mind and emotions. Each of the chakra centers is associated with specific organs, glands and hormones, parts of the body, nerve plexuses, archetypal themes and emotional states. We can tune into the chakras to know what sensations, emotions and beliefs are present for us and how these are impacting our way of being in the world.
The practice of kundalini yoga increases the amount of prana or life force energy streaming through the body and through the chakras. This improves our physical wellbeing, healing ability, and the strength of our electromagnetic field. The postures and mantras used in kundalini yoga help to open and clear the obstructions in the chakras and in the flow of prana. We decrease our attachments to the material realm as we open to the spiritual realm, and begin to be guided by spirit.
The Farm
We have a 105 acre farm, with space for tents, cars and a big tent for all of us to do yoga in (on the grass). We will have portable toilets and several picnic tables. We have fresh spring water erupting from the earth. The mosquitoes are usually gone by this time in September.
We have 30 acres of fields, an orchard, 2 ponds, walking trails, forest, marsh, lots of wildlife, Niagara Escarpment and Bruce Trail, caves, waterfall minutes away, big garden with fresh veggies, fire pit, solar panels, off the grid – in other words, paradise.
The Schedule
We will gather Friday at 6:00pm for a vegan gluten-free dinner (bring your own dishes and cutlery), followed by an orientation to the land and the weekend. Meals will be provided and include Friday dinner; Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner; and Sunday breakfast and lunch.
Early morning sadhana (spiritual practice of prayer, yoga and chanting) is optional from 4:00 am to 6:15 am on Saturday and Sunday. Sadhana will be outside under a big tent, on the grass. This will be followed by breakfast and an intense day of kundalini yoga and meditation from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday and 8:00 am to 12:25 pm on Sunday. During this time you will be moving to different places on the land to practice yoga with awareness of the elements of earth, water, fire air and space. Saturday evening will be spent hanging out around a bonfire, connecting in whatever way feels best for you.
The participants will be arranged in groups, and will rotate from one chakra station to the next over the 2 days, where an experienced kundalini yoga teacher will lead you through a chakra ritual, kundalini yoga set and meditation. A sample of the schedule for one of the rotating groups is posted below.
