The 21 Stages of Meditation: A Journey to the Self, gives you the tools to deepen your meditative capacity and come to a profound understanding of your Self. Students and Teachers from all contemplative traditions are invited to participate.
In this course we will engage in three separate meditative journeys. Each journey is comprised of seven stages, taking you step by step into a deeper level of awakening and realization. We will move through the rudimentary skills of meditation to the deeper levels of awareness and integration and finally into identity, projection and merger in the infinite pulse of creation.
During these 6 days we will practice 25 different meditations, varying from 31 minutes to 2 1/2 hours in length. Each of the meditations activates and reveals a particular layer of the psyche and way of reacting to the world. As we peel away layer after layer, we are left with our essential nature. Each meditation will be accompanied by discussion, self-reflection and journalling.

Why is this course so important? And why do people enjoy the experience more than once?
This course is like the axle on a wheel- it connects all the spokes that balance the action at the rim and it provides a still point, a center, around which every spoke spins smoothly. That center – the axis of experience – is the Self in all its dimensions.
In the 21 stages, the 21 spokes of the wheel, we experience, explore and refine awareness and the sense of Self through meditations that take us into each stage of our nature. It is very systematic as it pokes and calls to attention each area of our self.
This is critically important as we develop an integrated awareness of who we are in all the conditions we produce and encounter in our lives.
Psycho-cartographers like Ken Wilbur and others point out that we can have profound experiences that elevate us in their intensity, clarity, subtlety and transcendence without integrating them or developing a mature sense of self that can handle them. Without that, many people on the journey of personal growth and spiritual authenticity hit dead ends and spin in cul-de-sacs. Instead of becoming increasingly spontaneous and true to their heart and choosing well in life, they are diverted by compulsions, distorted beliefs or allergic rejections of their own experience.
The 21 stages is not a best-hits collection of meditations. It is a map of practice. Each stage can be practiced for the mastery of the challenges and skills arising in that combination of the Self and expanded experience. As a flow they form a progressive, elevating spiral; each round through the 21 stages increases the elevation of our vantage point on our own processes. Each elevation enhances the range of our choices and the strength of our authentic inner alignment so we can walk the path we are here to fulfill; it helps us realize our destiny to co-create with the universe and the Self.”
21 Stages of Meditation – the Evolution of Awareness
This course serves several special goals:
- It explores each stage of meditation through an experience that acts as a mirror for the realized Self. It goes beyond just learning a meditation to maturing a sense of Self that opens the heart, intuition and intentionality.
- It builds on and goes beyond the “game of the mind” we documented in the book “The Mind”
- It gives each participant new depth and stability to their capacity for awareness and the sense of Self. Self, mind and ego are recognized and clearly discerned, all to serve your fulfillment and purpose. Lastly,
- For those who are in the school of kundalini yoga it gives a process to cultivate the wisdom of the heart beyond knowledge or practices. Because of this central role it is an experience that renews us and reveals new facets every time it is repeated. Each time we do it gains are made; new vantage points are established. Each time we repeat it, it seems new since we have traveled along a natural spiral of evolution in our awareness and ability to know who we are, resolve blocks and act rightly for fulfillment.
This course goes to the common heart of us all. I have taught this on every continent and with many people of every culture and kind. Those who attend range from the expert to the first time explorers. Since the process is really about the sense of Self we have as we encounter our many aspects- mental, emotional and spiritual – revealed by the practice of each stage of meditation, everyone has some insight and expanded awareness.
The sequence of meditations we practice is designed so that each one works in synergy, systematically with the others. The result is more than a collection of best meditations. It is a precise process that guides us in a shared evolution of awareness and the Self based on the fundamental processes of our mind and psyche.
It is for this reason it is open to all, we enjoy the practice repeatedly and it gives immediate shifts in state and perspective that removes limitations and invites new opportunity.
